Census Day - April 1
The United States Census takes place every 10 years. The Census is a safe and private form which helps determine the number of people living in our country. Beginning in March 2010, census forms will be mailed to homes. Any information given to the Census is protected by law and the information cannot be shared with anyone. The Census is important. The results of the Census help our state and communities receive its fair share of federal dollars. The federal government distributes funds to our state for schools, parks, public works projects, public health, transportation and many other programs and services based on the number of people residing in a community. This process also helps determine the number of U.S. House of Representatives that each state has in the nation's capitol. Census Day is on April 1.
