CLOSED CAMPUS Valadez is a closed campus. Those students who must leave during the day need to secure an OFF-CAMPUS PERMIT from the attendance office prior to leaving campus. Failure to do so will result in truancy for all classes missed. Students who must leave campus during the school day should present a note to the attendance clerk before school, signed by the parent or guardian, stating the reason and the time the student will need to leave campus. DELIVERIES TO SCHOOL The office will not accept deliveries of flowers, balloons, or other gifts for students. Deliveries that are acceptable are lunches, uniforms, textbooks or other items needed for school. Deliveries of lunches should be made by 11:30 AM. It is requested that deliveries be kept to a minimum so as not to disrupt the learning environment. DIRECTORY INFORMATION Please notify the school office if your address or home/work phone number changes at any time during the school year. In a case of an emergency, it is important that the school know at all times where to reach parents or other responsible parties. GUESTS/VISITORS Students may not invite guests to school as it detracts from the classroom-learning environment. Dances, including the 8th grade promotion dance, are open only to registered Valadez students who have earned the privilege to attend, based on behavior/grades. The staff welcomes parents to observe classes by appointment. All visitors must report to the school office to obtain permission to enter the campus to conduct authorized school business. OFF-CAMPUS PERMIT Valadez is a closed campus. Once students have arrived on campus, they may not leave campus during the day without obtaining an off-campus permit from the office. If a student must leave school for any reason, a parent note indicating the time and nature of the dismissal is needed. The note should be given to the attendance secretary before school. The student will receive an “Off-Campus Permit”. This permit is shown to the classroom teacher at the time of dismissal and the student will report to the office. A parent or guardian must come into the office to pick the student up. This procedure protects the student from leaving the campus with anyone other than the parent or guardian. No student will be allowed to walk home to meet parents for an appointment or walk to a scheduled appointment from school. If your student is already at school when you find an early dismissal is necessary, call the office as soon as you have determined the time you need to pick up your student. We will notify your student to meet you in the office at the designated time. SCHOOL HOURS Normal school hours are 8:45 AM to 3:20 PM Tuesday through Friday. Mondays are late start days for staff development meetings and on Mondays, school hours are 9:15 AM to 3:20 PM. Since childcare is not offered at Valadez, parents are requested to drop students off AFTER 8:30 a.m. Students are to leave campus by 3:30 p.m. unless they are participating in a school sponsored after-school activity. School rules are in effect from the time students leave home until they return home after school. Students are not to loiter in the neighborhoods or at community businesses from the time they leave home until they arrive at school, and from the time they leave school until they arrive home. When students arrive at school in the morning, they are to move immediately to the campus quad. |
